OneDrive Data Download/Local Backup How-To

Upon graduating or otherwise ending enrollment at LSUS, some students may find that they have the need or desire to create a local copy of data they may have stored in OneDrive while enrolled.

As OneDrive entitlements are revoked upon three semesters of non-enrollment, it is important that students make a copy of any data they wish to keep before said enrollment has ended.

There are two different ways to go about retrieving files from OneDrive. See Option A and Option B below.

Option A | Download directly from the Office 365 website:

  1. Login to Office 365 at https://login.microsoftonline.com
  2. Click “OneDrive.” Here, you will see any folders you have stored in OneDrive.

  3. Click the circle to the left of each folder you wish to download to select it. You can also select the top-most circle to select all folders.

  4. Click “Download” at the top-left of the webpage.

Option B | Download via synchronization to a PC or Mac:

  1. From a PC or Mac, login to Office 365 at https://login.microsoftonline.com
  2. Click “OneDrive.” Here, you will see any folders you have stored in OneDrive.
  3. Click “Sync” at the top of the page.

  4. Follow the prompts to log into your Office 365 account via the OneDrive Desktop client.
  5. If you wish to change the default location to which the files will be stored, then specify where you would like your files Synced to when you are prompted to do so.

  6. When prompted, specify which Onedrive folder(s) you would like to have synced to your PC or Mac.
  7. Read any information presented to you via the OneDrive Desktop client.
  8. When the installation is complete, the synchronization of your files to the directory you specified will begin automatically.
