Opening an encrypted email via the Secure Email Encryption Service

Sometimes certain LSUS Faculty or Staff members may send out an email containing sensitive information via LSUS' secure email encryption service.

Below is guidance for how to access the message within the encrypted email, should you be the recipient of such a message:

As a recipient of an encrypted email, you will be sent a separate email from our Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service through which you will access your message.

The attachment in the email you receive will walk you through the process of registering a new account with our service.
Once your account is created and activated, you will then able to view the email which contains your message.
This ensures the message contents remain in an encrypted format throughout the delivery process.

To retrieve your message, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Open the attachment in the email you receive. You will be brought to a webpage which displays the following:

  2. Ensure your email address is populated in the To: field and click “Register.”

  3. Follow the required steps to register a new account with our Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service. Screenshot for reference:

  4. You will receive an account activation email to your email account. Follow the instructions in this email to activate your account within our secure email service. Screenshot for reference:

  5. After you have activated your secure email service account, re-open the attachment in the original email.
You will then be asked to authenticate to your secure email service account.
After you authenticate, you will then be able to view the encrypted email containing your message.
